Reading and Practice Time: 15 Minutes

In the IELTS Reading test, candidates are often presented with various question types, one of which is the True False Not Given (TFNG) format. These questions challenge test-takers to assess statements and determine if they are True, False, or Not Given in relation to the information presented in the text.

To correctly answer TFNG questions, candidates must adhere to specific guidelines:

  • Firstly, it is essential to avoid relying on personal knowledge or assumptions; instead, answers should be based solely on the information found in the passage.
  • Secondly, candidates must distinguish between false statements that contradict the passage and those labeled as “Not Given,” where there is no information to confirm or refute the statement.

By understanding the nature of True, False, and Not Given questions and applying these rules, IELTS candidates can boost their performance in this section of the reading test. You can now put your knowledge to the test by answering the True, False, and Not Given questions related to the text below.

IELTS Reading – Practice Test 3 – True, False, Not Given Questions

Read the IELTS passage below and answer questions 1 – 6 by choosing True, False, or Not Given.

Modern Lifestyles and Well-being

Paragraph A

In today’s fast-paced world, modern lifestyles have dramatically transformed the way we live and work. While technological advancements and globalization have brought undeniable benefits, they also pose new challenges to our overall well-being.

Paragraph B

One aspect of modern life that has garnered significant attention is the rise of sedentary lifestyles. As more people transition to office jobs and spend increasing amounts of time in front of screens, physical activity has taken a backseat. This shift has contributed to an uptick in obesity rates, heart disease, and other health complications. Furthermore, the excessive use of digital devices has been linked to poor sleep quality and increased stress levels, exacerbating the impact on our well-being.

Paragraph C

In addition to physical health concerns, modern lifestyles have also influenced mental health. The constant connectivity and endless stream of information associated with technology can lead to feelings of overwhelm and anxiety. Social media, in particular, has been implicated in the rise of mental health issues, as individuals struggle with the pressure to maintain a curated online presence and grapple with the fear of missing out (FOMO).

Paragraph D

However, it’s important to note that modern lifestyles are not exclusively detrimental to well-being. Innovative solutions have emerged to combat these challenges, including workplace wellness initiatives, wearable fitness trackers, and mindfulness apps. These tools offer resources for individuals to monitor their physical and mental health, facilitating a more balanced approach to modern life.

Paragraph E

In conclusion, while modern lifestyles can impact our well-being negatively, it’s crucial to recognize the potential benefits and utilize available resources to mitigate the downsides. Striking a balance between the demands of contemporary life and personal health will ultimately contribute to improved well-being in the face of these evolving challenges.
